Mahaney Arts Center, Olin C. Robison Concert Hall, 72 Porter Field Road, Middlebury, VT
The Choral Chameleon Ensemble features 16 professional NYC singers with a diversity of musical backgrounds. At the vanguard of new choral music and adventurous programming, the ensemble is America’s Test Kitchen for choral music—fearlessly experimenting and championing unexpected and new combinations of music—having commissioned and/or premiered over 200 new works.
Our 15th-anniversary Ensemble touring program “Music for Chameleons” is a thought-provoking narrative on the ever-changing landscape of the world and the power of human beings to have meaningful discourse and invoke transformation. Based on a short story by Truman Capote, the arc of this program explores a number of fundamental differences between groups of people and the grace, joy, and exhale invoked by meaningful conversations between opposing viewpoints. It also celebrates the true capacity human beings have to embrace and sustain positive changes in their communities and the larger shared community of the world. Music by di Lasso, Poulenc, Nobuaki, Rimmer, Trumbore, Jamiroquai, and Janet Jackson, plus premieres from Choral Chameleon Institute composers comprises a thought-provoking choral tapestry sure to please both the ears and the heart.
